Winter 2024: 5 top travel destinations

The new year has begun and as we’ve already passed its first month, the yearning for escape is only getting stronger as each trip is the perfect opportunity to relax, explore and rejuvenate as we are exposed to different cultures, traditions, history, new culinary experiences, and adventures.

So, if you’re in the process of seeking your next destination for the first few months of 2024, ONExchange’s team has put together 5 travel ideas to make this winter unforgettable:

  1. Dubai, United Arab Emirates

If spending some time in a particularly warm summer destination in your swimsuit sounds like a good idea, then Dubai is the perfect destination for you. As a choice for luxury-loving individuals, Dubai allows you to experience dreamy moments in opulent hotels and restaurants, but also to admire its diversity in terms of architecture, with breathtaking skyscrapers and mesmerising views from the iconic Burj Khalifa. Finally, don’t forget to visit the grand Dubai Mall for your regular shopping and take plenty of photos at the 30-acre lake that hosts the Dubai Fountain Show.

  1. Rome, Italy

Rome, the true city of love and the birthplace of Saint Valentine is a dream destination for both yourself and your loved ones. The winter in Rome is a bit heavier than the one in our country, so the first wise move to make here is to pack an umbrella and windbreaker, as rainy days are more than a possibility. Equipped in advance, you are now ready to explore the ever-popular Fontana di Trevi and take photos in front of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Of course, you can’t complete your trip without trying the authentic carbonara (the one with the egg) and consuming countless hot espressos, like a true Italian.

  1. Tokyo, Japan

The land of the Rising Sun has many devoted fans, and not without reason. In fact, if the mix of past and present, that its capital Tokyo offers, moves you, then go ahead and book your tickets pronto. By avoiding the frenetic crowds that arrive in the Japanese metropolis during high season, you’ll be able to better enjoy the sights and interactive experiences that this colourful and bright city has to offer. So, get your camera ready for the dazzling lights of Shinjuku and the electric city of Akihabara, as well as the more tranquil and traditional neighbourhoods of Asakusa and Ueno, with their beautiful parks, zoos and interesting museums. Finally, don’t miss the authentic Japanese ramen that makes locals and visitors lose their minds!

  1. Prague, Czech Republic

The enchanting capital of the Czech Republic is definitely not the first destination that comes to mind when we talk about a winter destination. However, if you’re a traveler who can withstand cold temperatures, then go ahead and visit Prague without fear. With an infrastructure that supports the functionality of the city in any weather event, you’ll be able to enjoy your walks through the – most likely – snowy landscape without any problems. The Czech capital offers unique architecture with magnificent buildings and mysterious neighbourhoods, so it is important to visit the old town with its imposing castle and walk around Karolei, the largest square in the city. And, as you’re visiting the country with the highest beer consumption per capita, we advise you not to leave Prague without behaving at least a little like a local. Try hot delicacies and as many beer labels as you can. For research purposes, of course.

  1. Cape Town, South Africa

For the end, we’ve kept a warm option for your winter getaway. South Africa, with its summer temperatures, is a surprise destination for the early months of 2024, as it combines pristine nature, a fusion of different cultural groups and backgrounds, and countless options for exploration. Take advantage of the high temperatures you’ll encounter for endless rides in Table Mountain National Park by arriving there on the cable car that leaves from the city, explore Cape Town’s bustling downtown, and don’t miss a seat at a restaurant serving local delicacies – our pick of the bunch was the traditional bobotie. Our final piece of advice, however, is above all to enjoy nature and choose one of the countless hiking trails available (special mention for the Cape of Good Hope) or if you’re one for relaxation, one of the 72 pristine beaches along the city’s coastline.

Each destination is as unique as your needs. So, do your research and plan a trip that will fascinate you, open your mind and make you see the world with new eyes. Whichever place you end up choosing, we look forward to hearing about your travel experiences in the comments section of our Instagram page! Happy travelling!
